Prominent Australia’s participation at Multilateral Naval Exercise MILAN24



1. The 12th edition of Multilateral Naval Exercise MILAN24 was conducted during 19th-27th February 2024 in Indian Navy’s Eastern Naval Command, Visakhapatnam. This year’s edition saw participation of over 50 countries.

2. From Indian Navy, nearly 20 ships including aircraft carriers INS Vikrant and INS Vikramaditya participated in the exercise. The exercise also witnessed participation of nearly 50 Indian aircrafts including MiG29K; Made in India, Light Combat Aircraft, Tejas and P8i.

3. Royal Australian Navy participated in the Naval exercise with a high-level delegation led by Australian Fleet Commander RADM Christopher Smith and an ANZAC class frigate HMAS Warramumga. Adm R Hari Kumar, Chief of the Naval Staff, Indian Navy held a meeting with RADM Christopher Smith on the sidelines of MILAN24 at Visakhapatnam and discussed bilateral defence cooperation.

 

4. The highlights of the harbour phase during 19th-23rd February, were the MILAN Opening Ceremony, International City Parade, International Maritime Seminar, MILAN Tech Expo, MILAN Village, Subject Matter Expert Exchanges and a Table Top Exercise.

 

5. During the sea phase from 24th-27th Feb 2024, participating Navies conducted advanced Air Defence, Anti-Submarine and Anti-Surface Warfare drills. Gunnery shoots on aerial and surface targets, manoeuvres and underway replenishment were also conducted.

 

6. Exercise MILAN 2024 was a grand success. It has strengthened regional cooperation and maritime security, fostered interoperability and understanding between participating navies and provided a platform for sharing best practices and expertise.
