The Gyan Network The Gyan Network

OVERVIEW

India is justly proud of her human resources, including those who have settled overseas. The Indian community in Australia has been growing rapidly in recent years and is engaged in various areas, including, very importantly, in the academic field. Regrettably, however not enough is known about their numbers or their many areas of expertise and achievement.
In order to overcome this gap in information, the High Commission of India, Canberra has been working on putting together a database of academics of Indian origin, who are working, or have worked in Australian Universities, and are resident in Australia. The idea behind this project is threefold:

  • In the first instance, to collect this information in a database that would have in one place, the names and profiles of academics of Indian origin in Universities in Australia; in effect, to map academic resources of Indian origin in Australia.
  • The second step would be to make Indian Universities aware of this project and encourage Indian academics to interact with their counterparts in Australian Universities.
  • We envisage that the GYAN NETWORK will eventually be a closed network which would provide its members, features such as blogs, chats and various other interactive features in order to collaborate with Indian academics and forge strong links between the two countries in various disciplines and areas of academic interaction.
  • The ultimate objective is to provide a collaborative environment that will facilitate a further sharing of information and resources between Universities in India and Australia.

Academics of Indian origin working in Australian universities have been invited, through the network of Universities in Australia.

This initial offering of GYAN NETWORK as a microsite for the High Commission of India, Canberra website will act as an information source of academics of Indian origin in Australia. All correspondence addressed to the members would be received at a common email address at the High Commission of India which will screen them before forwarding them to the addressed member, after which direct contact between the academics can take place. This is to avoid spam and other unsolicited emails being received by the GYAN NETWORK members.
