The service of Life Certificate can be availed either by signing Life Certificate forms in front of the Consular Officer or by sending signed Life Certificate forms by post to the High Commission/ Consulate as the case may be. Life Certificate forms, duly filled-in and signed by the applicant may be sent by post accompanied by "a Statutory Declaration Form attested by JP"

Certificate required for transportation of body/ashes back to India

Requirements

  • Passport of the deceased for cancellation
  • Original Death Certificate, with Apostille stamp from DFAT, with one photocopy of the same
  • Original Embalmer's Certificate (or Funeral Parlour Certificate) WITH APOSTILLE STAMP FROM DFAT stating that the body has been embalmed in accordance with the international health and shipping requirements and that the body has been placed in a hermetically sealed container with zinc liner and wooden outer container (not required if ashes are being transported)
  • No Communicable Diseases certificate from the Department of Health stating that the deceased did not suffer from any communicable/contagious diseases (not required if ashes are being transported)
  • Itinerary and details of person taking body/ashes back to India (if there is someone accompanying the body/ashes)
  • Original Cremation Certificate, with apostle stamp from DFAT, with one photocopy (required only if ashes are being transported)

Emergency Certificate

Emergency Certificate is a one-way travel-one-time document, which is issued to Indian nationals who do not hold valid Indian passports and need to travel back to India. It is usually issued to persons detained by Australian authorities who are to be deported back to India AND to Indian nationals who wish to travel to India on an emergency basis. For individuals travelling to India on an emergency basis, the individual has to apply for a new passport at the nearest Regional Passport Office before returning to Australia.

Following Documents are required for processing E.C.

  • E.C. will not be issued in the absence of any of the following documents.
  • ApplicationEC application form duly filled in and signed by the applicant. In case of minor, it must be signed by both parents.
  • Original Indian Passport (If lost then provide photocopies of passport along with police complaint with the nearest police station)
  • Copy of valid Visa
  • Three recent passport-size photographs (2 inch x 2 inch)
  • Proposed Travel Details with Iternary or copy of ticket
  • Documents supporting reason for emergency
  • Self-Addressed Envelope to dispatch the document to addressee
  • A letter addressed to the High Commission/Consulate General requesting for EC, Containing the reasons therein for such a request. (The letter mucst contain: Passport number, current visa status, circumstances, an understanding for re-issue of passport from India and any other relevant disclosure)

Processing Time No processing time can be prescribed - it depends on time taken to verify Indian nationality
