Emergency Visa is NOT a category of visa. It is an Entry visa granted to Australian or foreign passport holders of Indian origin for travel to India in an emergency situation to attend to genuine emergencies such as recent death or serious illness of immediate family member (blood relation) of the applicant in India only. Applicant will be required to provide proof of the emergency, which would be subject to verification and visa will be granted solely at the discretion of the High Commission. Applicants may also be required to appear in person for an interview. Entry Visa Valid for three months with single entry is granted in such emergencies.

Applications for Emergency Visa (during working hours) with relevant documents in respect of Australian Capital Territory and Queensland should be submitted at:

The VFS Centres in Canberra & Brisbane between 0830 hours to 1500 hours (on working days).

High Commission between 1500 hours up to 1730 hours (on working days)

After working hours Emergency Visa applications can be submitted at:

High Commission between 1400 hours and 1600 hours (on public holidays and weekends)

The applications for emergency visa at all times would be received ONLY by fixing prior appointment (as per official convenience), on the telephone number mentioned below.

The emergency visa application will be accepted ONLY after submission of complete documents i.e.

  • Complete Online filled and printed Visa application form with photograph pasted (Select visa type as Entry Visa). Please visit https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa/indianVisaReg.jsp

  • Proof of urgency (Death or medical certificate)

  • Confirmed flight ticket of travelling within 48 hours.

  • Exact amount of fees in Cash

In order to ensure that this number is only used for emergency calls, the person making the request for an emergency service should first send a brief SMS outlining the emergency situation he/she is in and the service required. The person would be contacted thereafter by the emergency officer to address the issue.

Note: Consular enquiries would not be accepted on Emergency contact number. Please also note that this emergency facility is only for Emergency Visa, Emergency Certificate and Transportation of Mortal Remains being sent the same day.
